This was the case for a large truck manufacturer, and Sealpilot helped design a new material to fill the gap after the supplier stopped using virgin raw materials.

Start:

We were approached by one of our preferred material suppliers a few years ago. They had a heavy-duty truck manufacturer that needed stock gap sealing tape with slits, and then die-cut in the area between the truck's roof and door frame. Sealpilot has these capabilities in-house, so the supplier chose us as the manufacturer of choice. Sealpilot then made a sample and sent it to the customer, where the foam double-sided PSA material came into play and sealed the roof clearance.

Progress:

In 2022, in the face of logistical and material challenges, our material supplier informed us and the manufacturer of heavy trucks that the current sealing material had suddenly stopped production due to the supply of chemicals from an EU country. Our material supplier thought they had an alternative, but upon testing, it was determined to be too thin, the wrong color, would not effectively seal the gap between the roof and the frame, plus the price had almost doubled.

Then the heavy-duty truck manufacturer conducted a production test run. All our expectations were fulfilled and reduced

assembly time, reduced costs, and compared to the previous "off-the-shelf" sealing products (which are now

cut to a specific thickness of closed-cell foam) for better sealing. PPAP was approved and there was no line downtime.
