After the ban on the use of toxic materials throughout the industry in the 1990s, non-asbestos fiber materials replaced the use of asbestos gaskets. Asbestos gaskets are commonly used in engines and heavy industrial applications, such as high-pressure steam systems, because of the material's excellent heat resistance.
Modern fiber materials, such as those offered by Klinger, Novus and Flexiseal, are often manufactured using aramid fibers (Kevlar) mixed with polymers for different applications.

DURION Gasket material
Durlon® gaskets cover a wide range of categories, each tailored to meet the specific requirements of different industrial applications
We produce new or non-asbestos gaskets that replace existing asbestos material gaskets to meet customer requirements. We use CAD design to create precise gasket profiles and advanced manufacturing equipment to guarantee the precision of finished gaskets in high-volume or short-volume production.
Our experienced team can help customers with material specifications and prototyping, as well as cost-effective manufacturing for low-volume production. All gaskets comply with recognized national and international standards.
Typical features:
▶ Excellent chemical resistance
▶ Wide temperature range
▶ Excellent ability to work under pressure
▶ High level of stability
▶ Excellent tightness
▶ Long lifespan
Non-asbestos fibers include aramid, kevlar, and glass fibers. Aramid is often used because of its excellent heat resistance and strength. This natural material is five times stronger than steel and twice as strong as fiberglass or nylon. It is also resistant to absorbent and organic solvents, has good chemical resistance and low flammability.
Non-asbestos gaskets typically use elastomers such as nitrile, neoprene or EPDM rubber as adhesive materials, each with specific benefits. For example, nitrile binders-containing aramid fibers are ideal for applications such as water and wastewater treatment, oil and gas production, food processing, pipe flange gaskets, and boiler gaskets.
They are used in: air compressors, diesel engines, piping, and most other industrial and marine applications. Keep in mind that, as a general rule, you should choose the thinnest material possible for your application.
